Artist Statement
How did this collaging project start? I was invited by a friend one night to go to a collaging/poetry
gathering one evening at Leap Coffee Roasters last summer. I almost didn’t go, little did I know it would
end up changing my art-making direction! I was obsessed immediately and spent the rest of the summer
to present day collaging as if there was no tomorrow! It was fun and also a great way to self sooth and
relieve stress – I felt inspired by art making in a way I hadn’t in quite some time. I started out sending
small collage cards to friends for free and for fun - it was great practice and I could see my work
improving. Even without giving pieces away I started building up quite an inventory. I’ve always enjoyed
collaging but I never considered it something I could make for art. It just seemed “too fun”. However,
people began remarking that I should start showing and selling them. I thought “Well why not me? Why
can’t I do that?”
I strive to create and immerse the viewer in universes and worlds that are fantastic and subversive,
beautiful and engaging - places where anything is possible. If an image doesn’t totally make sense in its
surroundings even better! I also love using humor in my pieces, there are many jokes and Easter eggs in
my pieces for people who study them. Mixing “vintage” images with more present day and progressive
photos and surroundings is also something that drives me. It is my goal that people will find something
new every time they look at my art. I hope you find beauty, are challenged (in a good way) and have a
laugh when you look at my art.
Enjoy!
